The Marble Steps

Sofia stood in the town square, watching children play around the fountain. Her green eyes sparkled as she gazed up at the towering statue of Athena, goddess of wisdom. The marble figure held a shield and spear, looking down at the bustling marketplace with ancient eyes.

"She's beautiful," Sofia whispered, touching the tiny daisies woven into her golden braids.

Her stepmother India appeared beside her, one hand resting on her growing belly. "The goddess Athena was known for her wisdom and protection," India said gently. "Just like you, my dear Sofia."

Sofia tilted her head, curious. "Do you think she ever felt scared?"

"Even goddesses must face challenges," India replied with a knowing smile.

The Sparrow's Message

A small sparrow landed on Sofia's shoulder, chirping urgently. India stepped back, surprised.

"What does it want?" Sofia whispered, watching the bird's bright black eyes.

The sparrow dropped a tiny scroll at Sofia's feet, then flew three circles around the statue of Athena before disappearing into the clouds above.

Sofia picked up the scroll with trembling fingers. The parchment felt warm and ancient.

"Open it," India said softly, moving closer despite her worry.

Sofia unrolled the paper. Golden letters appeared: "Princess Sofia, you are summoned to Mount Olympus. The gods await your arrival at sunset."

India gasped. "That's impossible."

Thunder rumbled overhead, though no clouds darkened the sunny sky.
