Morning Rounds

Ms. Paintbrush Okapi stood on the highest tower of Crayon Okapi Castle, her rainbow cape fluttering in the morning breeze. The blue-haired superhero gazed across Canvas Savanah Metropolis as the sun painted golden streaks across the sky.

"Another beautiful day to protect the city," she said, adjusting her blue mask.

Her giant magic paintbrush materialized in her gloved hands, shimmering with colorful energy. Below, the bustling metropolis came to life. Humanoid okapis, giraffes, and deer walked alongside humans on the crystal-paved streets. The morning air smelled of fresh crayons and possibility.

Ms. Paintbrush Okapi launched herself into flight, soaring between buildings made of colored stone and gleaming crystals. She waved at citizens below, who smiled and pointed up at their beloved protector.

Landing gracefully in the town square, she noticed something odd. Mrs. Henderson, the human baker, was arranging pastries in her shop window. But the normally bright pink frosting on her cupcakes looked strangely dull.

"Hmm," Ms. Paintbrush Okapi murmured, stepping closer to investigate.

The Fading Treats

Ms. Paintbrush Okapi stepped closer to Mrs. Henderson's bakery window. The pink frosting that should have been bright and cheerful looked gray and lifeless.

"Good morning, Mrs. Henderson," she called through the open door.

The baker looked up from her display case, her brown eyes worried. "Oh, Ms. Paintbrush Okapi! Thank goodness you're here. Something terrible is happening to my pastries."

As Ms. Paintbrush Okapi entered the shop, she watched in horror as the yellow lemon tarts on the counter slowly drained of color, turning ashen gray.

"When did this start?" she asked, her blue hair catching the morning light.

"About an hour ago. First the pink cupcakes, then the purple cookies, and now..." Mrs. Henderson pointed helplessly at her colorful display case, where every treat was fading to gray.

Ms. Paintbrush Okapi summoned her giant magic paintbrush, its surface still shimmering with rainbow energy. She touched it gently to a gray cupcake, but nothing happened. The color didn't return.

"This is bigger than just your bakery," she realized, her heart sinking. Through the window, she could see the red fire hydrant across the street had turned completely gray too.
