The Great Crayon Competition
Listen to audiobook
Morning in the Castle
Crayon She-Wolf stretched her arms in her bedroom at the top of the tallest tower in Crayon Wolf Castle. The morning sunlight streamed through the large windows, casting rainbow patterns on the stone walls. She pulled on her blue and black supersuit and adjusted her purple mask.
"Another beautiful day in Canvas Wood City," she said to herself, looking out at the bustling streets below. Humans walked alongside humanoid wolves and deer, heading to their morning routines.
Her phone buzzed with a text message. It was from Mayor Brushstroke: "Emergency! Please come to City Hall immediately. The art contest announcement is today!"
Crayon She-Wolf's ears perked up with excitement. She had been waiting weeks for this news. The annual art competition always brought the whole city together, and this year felt extra special somehow.
She summoned her giant glowing blue crayon and stepped onto her balcony. Wind swirled around her feet as she prepared to fly across the city.
The Shoemaker's Warning
Crayon She-Wolf soared through the crisp morning air, her cape fluttering behind her. Below, Canvas Wood City buzzed with activity as citizens hurried toward City Hall's grand steps.
She landed gracefully near the entrance, where a crowd had already gathered. Mayor Brushstroke, a tall deer with silver antlers, stood at a podium adjusting his microphone.
"Welcome, everyone!" the mayor announced. "This year's Great Crayon Competition will award the winner one thousand dollars worth of art supplies for Canvas Wood Elementary School!"
Excited murmurs rippled through the crowd. Crayon She-Wolf's ears perked up—that was enough supplies to last the whole year!
"However," Mayor Brushstroke continued, "there's a catch. Due to budget cuts, we can only provide basic materials to each contestant. You must create your masterpiece using only three crayons, one sheet of paper, and whatever natural elements you can find."
A woman with short brown hair and paint-stained apron pushed forward from the crowd. "That's impossible!" she called out. "How can anyone create quality art with such limitations?"
"That's the challenge, Ms. Cobbler," the mayor replied. "True creativity comes from working within constraints."
Crayon She-Wolf noticed several other contestants already whispering and scheming together.
