Morning Rounds

Ms. Crayon Unicorn stretched her glowing blue wings as sunlight streamed through the tall windows of Crayon Unicorn Castle. Her purple mane caught the morning light as she stepped onto the balcony of the central tower.

"Another beautiful day in Artlandia," she said, adjusting her blue eye mask. She held her giant glowing crayon and pointed it toward the four crayon towers surrounding her home. Each tower sparkled with different colored magic.

She flew down to check on the castle grounds. The two unicorn statues in front still stood proudly, their marble surfaces gleaming. Everything looked normal.

But as she soared over the nearby village, something felt wrong. The flower gardens below seemed duller than usual. The bright red roses appeared more pink, and the sunny yellow daisies looked pale.

"That's odd," she murmured, landing near a paintbrush pixie who was tending to some artwork.

The tiny pixie looked worried. "Ms. Crayon Unicorn! Have you noticed the colors today? They don't seem as bright as yesterday."

The Yellow Boots

Ms. Crayon Unicorn knelt beside the worried paintbrush pixie, studying the faded flowers more closely. The tiny fairy creature with sparkly green eyes and paint-splattered purple tunic pointed to a nearby rose bush.

"It started this morning," the pixie explained. "I tried adding fresh paint to brighten the petals, but nothing worked."

Suddenly, a sharp whistle echoed across the village square. A woman with short dark hair jogged toward them, her red running shoes splashing through small puddles left from the morning dew.

"Excuse me!" the woman called out, slightly out of breath. "I'm Sara, the village shoemaker. Have you noticed something strange happening to all the shoes today?"

Ms. Crayon Unicorn stood up, her glowing blue wings folding behind her. "What do you mean?"

Sara held up a pair of bright yellow boots. "These were sunshine yellow yesterday. Now look at them - they're almost white! Every colored shoe in my shop is losing its color. My customers are panicking."

The paintbrush pixie gasped. "It's not just the flowers then!"

Ms. Crayon Unicorn felt her stomach drop. If colors were disappearing from everything in Artlandia, this was much worse than she'd thought.
