The Great Ghibli Mix-Up
Listen to audiobook
Morning at the Grand Gates
The morning sun painted Ghibli Park's entrance gates gold and orange. Princess Mononoke stretched her arms wide, breathing in the fresh air. Her friends stood beside her, all nine of them together for the first time in months.
"I can't believe they built a whole park!" Chihiro bounced on her toes, her dark ponytail swinging.
Kiki adjusted her red bow and grinned. "Look at all those buildings! The Grand Warehouse looks enormous."
Jiji the black cat flicked his tail. "I smell something strange in the air."
Totoro rumbled happily, his grey fur catching sunlight. Satsuki and Mei giggled as they pointed at different attractions. Sosuke squinted at a map while Ponyo splashed in a nearby fountain.
"Ready for our adventure?" Princess Mononoke asked, her brown eyes sparkling with excitement.
The Whirling Mix
The friends walked through the entrance gates together. A woman with short black hair stood near a wooden booth, adjusting colorful paper windmills that spun in the breeze.
"Welcome to Ghibli Park!" she called out. "I'm making these special windmills for opening day. Would you like to try spinning one?"
Chihiro reached for a bright red windmill. As she spun it, purple sparkles swirled around all nine friends like dancing fireflies.
"Whoa!" Sosuke stumbled backward.
Everything felt dizzy for a moment. When the sparkles faded, Chihiro felt strange. She looked down at her hands and gasped.
Totoro, the big grey spirit, was now tiny like a hamster! Ponyo had grown as tall as Satsuki. Kiki's red bow was now on Jiji the black cat's head.
"Something's very wrong," Princess Mononoke whispered, staring at her hands that now glowed softly.
