The Great Hair Emergency
Listen to audiobook
Pink Morning
Yuki adjusted her scissor hairpins as she unlocked the pink door of her magical salon in Nakaibito village. The morning sun glinted off her scissors earrings, and her elaborate pink curls bounced with each step on her matching heels.
"Another day of beautiful hair transformations," she said, polishing her pink nails against her dress.
Maki burst through the door, her own magical hairdressing tools jangling. "Yuki! We have a problem. Five boys are causing chaos in the village square."
"What kind of chaos?" Yuki asked, checking her reflection in the salon mirror.
"Their hair is so long and messy that everyone mistakes them for girls. The parents are furious, and the boys refuse haircuts completely."
Through the window, Yuki spotted a group of shaggy-haired boys running past, followed by angry adults shouting. One boy tripped over his own tangled locks.
"They look terrified," Yuki observed, her purple eyes filled with concern.
The Chase Begins
Yuki stepped outside her salon just as the five boys rounded the corner again. Their hair whipped behind them like wild flags as they ran.
"Wait!" she called, but they didn't slow down.
A woman with short gray hair emerged from the village laundromat, shaking her head. "Those poor children have been running circles for an hour. Their parents are beside themselves."
"What exactly happened to make them so afraid?" Yuki asked.
The woman pointed down the street. "Three older boys with giant scissors have been chasing them all week, threatening to cut their hair whether they like it or not."
Yuki's purple eyes widened. "Bullies with scissors?"
"Daiki, Sato, and their leader Ryusei. They think it's funny to terrorize anyone with long hair."
Just then, shouts echoed from the square. "There they are!" a harsh voice yelled.
Through the salon window, Yuki watched three bigger boys charge after the five terrified ones. The leader carried enormous silver scissors that gleamed in the sunlight.
"This is worse than I thought," Yuki whispered, her scissor hairpins catching the light as she turned her head.
