Morning at the Big Top

The morning sun streamed through the striped tent windows of Irene's Freak Show, casting colorful shadows across the wooden floor. Irene adjusted her red top hat and checked her pocket watch. Her bright green eyes sparkled with determination as she surveyed her troupe.

Yuki the clown girl sat on a trunk, her red and black hair hanging in messy pigtails. Her melting makeup had dried overnight into strange patterns, but her smile never wavered. "Good morning, Irene!" she chirped, her voice unnaturally cheerful.

Sam stretched her arms, the joints popping loudly as she bent them at impossible angles. Her green hair caught the light as she mimicked Irene's voice perfectly: "Time to get ready, everyone!"

The conjoined twins Sophie and Sally were already arguing about breakfast. Their pale pink hair bounced as Sally shook her head. "I want pancakes!" she declared. Sophie crossed her arms. "Eggs are better!"

Oliver ducked under a low-hanging banner, his blue hair nearly touching the tent ceiling at his towering seven-and-a-half-foot height.

The Dreaded Announcement

Mikey appeared suddenly next to Oliver, his white hair shimmering as he became visible. "Did you see Flash practicing his fire tricks behind the tent?" he whispered.

"He nearly burned Shaggy's hair!" Oliver chuckled, his deep voice rumbling through the tent.

Shaggy's massive waves of brown hair trailed behind him like a living carpet as he shuffled past. The hair was so long it covered most of his body, swishing with each step.

Irene clapped her hands twice, and everyone froze. Her green eyes had that serious look that meant business.

"Listen up, everyone," she announced. "Today is haircut day."

The tent fell silent. Yuki's perpetual smile flickered for just a moment. Sam's joints popped nervously as she twisted her wrists. Sophie and Sally stopped arguing mid-sentence, both staring at Irene in horror.

"We're going to Sheldon and Bailey's salon downtown," Irene continued, checking her pocket watch again. "Their van will be here in an hour."

Shaggy let out a muffled groan from beneath his hair mountain. Oliver's shoulders sagged despite his towering height.

"But Irene," Sam protested in Flash's voice, "can't we skip it this month?"

Irene's eyes flashed just a hint of red. "No exceptions."
