The Great Pencil Shortage

Dawn Reports
Ms. Pencil Caribou stretched her arms wide as the morning sun gleamed off her silver mask. From the top floor of Pencil Caribou Tower, she could see all of Line City spread below like a colorful map.
"Another beautiful day to help the citizens," she said, adjusting her yellow cape.
Her assistant, a young humanoid llama named Pablo, rushed into the room carrying a steaming cup of coffee. His white wool was perfectly groomed, and his brown eyes sparkled with excitement behind wire-rimmed glasses.
"Ms. Caribou! You need to see the morning news," Pablo said, his voice trembling slightly.
She took the remote and clicked on the television. The news anchor, a serious-looking humanoid lion, appeared on screen.
"Good morning, Line City. We're receiving unusual reports from across the downtown area. Several businesses are claiming their writing supplies have gone missing overnight."
Ms. Pencil Caribou raised an eyebrow. "Missing writing supplies?"
Pablo nodded nervously. "It started small, but now three different shops are saying the same thing."
The Call from City Hall
The phone on Ms. Pencil Caribou's desk rang with urgent beeps. Pablo, the young humanoid llama, answered quickly.
"Pencil Caribou Tower, Pablo speaking," he said, adjusting his wire-rimmed glasses.
"This is Mayor Inkwell!" The voice crackled through the speaker. "We have an emergency! Every pencil, pen, crayon, and marker in Line City has vanished!"
Ms. Pencil Caribou's brown eyes widened. She grabbed the phone. "Mayor, are you certain?"
"Absolutely! The schools can't teach, offices can't function, and artists can't create. Citizens are gathering in Central Square, and they're starting to panic!"
Through the tower's windows, Ms. Pencil Caribou could see crowds forming below. A humanoid deer mother held her crying children close while a frustrated humanoid lion businessman paced back and forth.
"We're on our way," Ms. Pencil Caribou said firmly.
She summoned her giant magic pencil, which materialized in her silver-gloved hand with a soft shimmer. Pablo hurried to keep up as she headed for the tower's exit.
"How can every writing tool just disappear overnight?" Pablo asked, his voice shaky.
"That's what we need to find out," she replied, her yellow cape flowing behind her.
