The First Snow

India clutched baby Achilles close to her chest as snowflakes began falling outside the palace windows. The infant's dark eyes blinked up at her, innocent and trusting.

"Your father would be so proud," she whispered, remembering King Philip's gentle smile before the terrible accident.

A soft knock interrupted her thoughts. Aunt Olympias entered, her silver hair braided with tiny bells that chimed softly.

"The Ice Queen's messenger arrived," Olympias said, her voice heavy with worry. "She demands to see you tomorrow morning."

India's heart skipped. Everyone knew the Ice Queen's summons meant danger.

"What does she want?" India asked.

"No one knows. But India, you must be brave. Remember, real courage isn't about being fearless—it's about facing your fears anyway."

Through the frosted glass, the Ice Queen's distant palace gleamed like a crystal mountain.

The Sparrow's Message

The next morning, India wrapped baby Achilles in warm blankets and stepped outside into the crisp mountain air. Snow crunched under her sandals as she walked toward the Ice Queen's palace.

A small sparrow landed on her shoulder, chattering urgently. "The Ice Queen has your other son," it chirped.

India's heart stopped. "Other son? But I only have Achilles—"

"Little Patroclus," the sparrow continued. "She took him while you slept. She says you must compete in her palace games to win both boys back."

India stared at the crystal fortress ahead. Through its walls, she could see tiny figures moving inside.

"What games?" she whispered.

"Three challenges. If you fail even one, you lose them forever."
