The Floating Gardens

Iris Everheart stepped carefully across the bridge of solidified light, her gardening boots making soft melodic hums with each step. The Whispering Reach stretched before her like a scattered puzzle of floating islands, each one covered in gardens that seemed to glow faintly in the perpetual violet sunset.

"This is impossible," she whispered, crouching to examine a patch of silver flowers that grew directly from the obsidian stone. Her emerald eyes widened as she touched a petal. It felt real, but somehow... empty.

A gentle voice spoke behind her. "They're forgetting how to bloom."

Iris turned to see an elderly woman with silver hair approaching from another floating island. She wore robes the color of twilight and carried a watering can that seemed to hold starlight instead of water.

"I'm Sage Memoria," the woman said, her voice carrying that same hollow quality as the flowers. "And these gardens are dying because the memories that created them are fading away."

The woman's eyes looked distant, as if she was struggling to remember something important.

The Silver Garden's Secret

Iris followed Sage Memoria deeper into the floating gardens, her boots still humming softly on the obsidian paths. The elderly woman moved with surprising speed, her starlight watering can glinting in the violet sunset.

"Wait," Iris called out, stopping beside a patch of withered sunflowers. "These flowers aren't just dying. Look at the pattern."

She knelt down and traced numbers in the dirt with her finger. "The petals are falling in groups of three, then five, then eight. It's a sequence!"

Sage Memoria turned back, her pale blue eyes suddenly sharp and focused. "You can see the mathematical patterns in the memory decay?"

Before Iris could answer, a small hummingbird with iridescent green feathers zipped between them, hovering frantically near Iris's curly red hair. Its tiny voice chimed like silver bells.

"The Memory Garden's core is failing!" the hummingbird squeaked. "Princess Elara sent me to find help. The entire kingdom of Oakhaven is forgetting itself piece by piece!"

Iris's emerald eyes widened. "A whole kingdom?"

The hummingbird nodded urgently. "Every hour, more memories vanish. Soon, no one will remember who they are or where they came from."
