The Missing Rainbow Bridge
Listen to audiobook
Morning Coffee and Strange News
Ms. Crayon Zebra stretched her striped arms and stepped onto the balcony of her castle tower. The morning sun painted Stripe City in golden light below her. Humans, tigers, and zebras moved through the streets like colorful dots.
"Good morning, beautiful city," she said, adjusting her blue mask.
Her phone buzzed. The screen showed Mayor Whiskers calling. She tapped to answer.
"Ms. Zebra! Thank goodness you picked up." The tiger's voice crackled with worry. "Something terrible has happened overnight."
"What's wrong, Mayor?"
"The Rainbow Bridge is gone! Completely vanished! The annual parade is in three days, and without the bridge, everyone will have to take the long way around the river. The parade route is ruined!"
Ms. Zebra's eyes widened. She flew to her window and looked toward the river. Where the magnificent rainbow-colored bridge should span the water, only empty air remained.
"I'll be right there," she said, grabbing her giant zebra-striped crayon.
The Flying Market Discovery
Ms. Zebra soared through the morning sky, her rainbow stripes catching the sunlight. Below, the empty space where the Rainbow Bridge should be made her stomach twist with worry.
As she flew over the river, something caught her eye. A colorful hot air balloon basket floated near the clouds, filled with strange objects that sparkled and gleamed.
"Hello there!" called a cheerful voice from the basket. A parrot with bright green feathers and a yellow beak poked her head over the side. She wore tiny purple glasses and a red bandana. "You look troubled, dear!"
Ms. Zebra flew closer. "I'm looking for our missing Rainbow Bridge. Have you seen anything unusual?"
The parrot's eyes widened behind her glasses. "Oh my! I'm Polly, and this is my flying market. I sell lost things I find around the world." She gestured at her basket filled with mismatched socks, forgotten toys, and odd trinkets. "But I haven't seen any bridges lately."
Suddenly, Polly gasped. "Wait! This morning I found something very strange in the clouds—colorful paint drops floating in the air like they were dripping from something invisible!"
