Morning Sketches
Sketchy dipped her glowing magic pencil into the morning sunlight streaming through her tower window. The pencil sparkled with golden light as she began sketching the view of Pen Dragon Valley below.
"Another masterpiece in the making?" Darlene asked, stepping into the art room. Her deer hooves clicked softly against the stone floor.
"Just capturing the sunrise," Sketchy replied, adding delicate strokes to her drawing. "Look how the light dances on the pixie gardens."
Clarice bounded in, her whiskers twitching with excitement. "The breakfast bell rang five minutes ago! My stomach is practically singing opera."
Sketchy glanced at her drawing one more time, then set down her pencil. The sketch showed vibrant purples and golds painting the valley, with tiny pixie houses dotting the landscape like colorful gems.
"Coming!" She folded her translucent wings and followed her wives downstairs, leaving the beautiful drawing on her easel to dry in the warm morning light.
The Gray Morning
The three friends entered the great dining hall where pixies, deer folk, and cat creatures gathered around long wooden tables. Sketchy reached for her favorite purple mug, but gasped.
"Where did the purple go?" she whispered.
Darlene's chestnut fur bristled. "What do you mean?"
Sketchy held up the mug. It was completely gray. She spun around, scanning the room with growing alarm. Every tapestry, every flower arrangement, every piece of clothing—all drained of color.
"Everything's gray!" Clarice the cat bounded to the window, her orange fur now a dull charcoal shade. "Look outside!"
Through the tall windows, Pen Dragon Valley stretched before them in shades of gray and black. The pixie gardens that had sparkled with rainbow hues just minutes ago were now colorless.
An elderly sparrow landed on the windowsill, chattering frantically. "The colors vanished during breakfast! First the flowers, then the sky, then everything else!"
Sketchy pulled out her magic pencil. It still glowed, but when she tried to draw on a napkin, only gray lines appeared.
"My magic doesn't work anymore," she said, her voice shaking.
