The Paint That Wouldn't Stick

Morning Rituals
Ms Paintbrush Zebra stood on the observation deck of Paintbrush Tower, watching the morning sun paint golden streaks across Savannah Canvas City. Her giant paintbrush gleamed in the light as she surveyed the colorful streets below.
"Another beautiful day to protect our city," she said, adjusting her glowing blue mask.
Her assistant, a cheerful human named Tommy Chen, burst through the door carrying a steaming cup of coffee. "Ms Zebra! You're up early again."
"The city never sleeps, Tommy," she replied, her half-red, half-yellow mane catching the breeze. "And neither do its heroes."
Tommy set down his coffee and pulled out his tablet. "Speaking of which, we've got three charity events this week, plus the annual Art Festival needs your approval for security."
Ms Paintbrush Zebra nodded, then raised her paintbrush toward the sky for her morning power check. She concentrated, expecting the usual brilliant spray of colors to burst forth.
Nothing happened.
She frowned and tried again. Still nothing.
"That's... odd."
The Corporate Emergency
Tommy set his coffee down hard, sloshing drops across his tablet screen. "Ms Zebra, look at this!"
He pointed toward downtown, where the sleek Canvas Corporation building stood like a glass monument. But something was wrong. The entire fifty-story structure was losing its color, turning a dull gray from bottom to top.
"The paint's vanishing!" Tommy gasped.
Ms Paintbrush Zebra gripped her giant paintbrush tighter. She had to try her powers again. Aiming at the distant building, she concentrated with all her might. Her mask glowed brighter, her muscles tensed, but still nothing happened.
"We need to get there fast," she said, her voice steady despite the panic rising in her chest.
Tommy grabbed his phone and started dialing. "I'll call the mayor's office and—"
A piercing alarm echoed across the city. Other buildings were starting to fade too. The art museum, the rainbow bridge, even the colorful street murals were turning gray.
"This isn't just about my powers anymore," Ms Paintbrush Zebra said, watching the color drain from Savannah Canvas City. "Something's attacking our entire world."
