The Third Elevator Button
Blue Crayon Tower stood in the middle of Scribble Metropolis like a giant crayon someone forgot to put away. Inside, the lobby buzzed with voices and phone chimes.
Blue Crayon Lion landed lightly by the revolving doors. His blue-and-black suit barely wrinkled. He tucked his glowing blue crayon into the strap on his back and looked up at the giant screen.
“BUILD THE BEST PLAYGROUND,” it flashed, with a countdown.
A human woman at the sign-up kiosk sighed. “One team at a time, please!”

A dryer buzzed. Someone’s socks tumbled like a slow tornado.
Pip finally whispered, “My sketch is in here.” He tapped the tube.
The door banged open.
A human woman with short dark hair shoved in, dripping. She wore a gray apron and carried a wet canvas bag that smelled like leather.
“There you are!” she said, spotting the tube. “Thanks for the team materials.”
Pip’s ears flattened. “That’s mine.”
The woman tugged the tube from his hands and flipped the label. “Official submission, already filed. One per team.”
Blue Crayon Lion’s paw tightened around his phone as the screen flashed: SUBMISSION RECEIVED
