A Perfectly Ordinary Monday

Lily Bloom skipped up the curving steps of Redleaf School, her violet eyes sparkling in the morning sunlight. The brick-red walls seemed to glow, and the owl-shaped arches cast playful shadows across the courtyard.

"Good morning, Mrs. Henderson!" Lily called to the librarian, who waved from behind a stack of books.

As she rounded the corner toward her classroom, something tiny and shimmering caught her eye. A delicate creature no bigger than her thumb fluttered near the window ledge, wings beating like hummingbird feathers but sparkling with silver dust.

"Oh my!" Lily whispered, crouching down. "Are you hurt, little one?"

The fairy—for that's exactly what it was—looked up with bright green eyes. "I'm Emma," she said in a voice like tinkling bells. "And I'm perfectly fine, thank you very much."

Lily's mouth fell open. In all her fifteen years, she'd never seen anything quite like this.

"Don't look so shocked," Emma giggled, perching on Lily's outstretched finger. "Strange things happen at this school more often than you'd think."

The Mysterious Box

Emma perched on Lily's shoulder as they walked down the hallway toward Mrs. Teachup's classroom. The fairy's silver wings caught the morning light streaming through the owl-shaped windows.

"There she is," Emma whispered, pointing ahead.

Mrs. Teachup stood by the bulletin board, frantically tearing down colorful posters. Her usually neat brown hair hung loose around her shoulders, and she kept glancing toward the main entrance.

"Mrs. Teachup?" Lily called out. "Do you need help?"

The teacher spun around, her face pale. "Oh! Lily, dear. I was just... updating the displays."

But Emma noticed something odd. Mrs. Teachup stuffed the torn posters into a large cardboard box marked "FRAGILE - MAIL ROOM." Strange items peeked out: a fake mustache, dark sunglasses, and what looked like a different name tag.

"That's not normal," Emma murmured into Lily's ear.

Mrs. Teachup grabbed the box and hurried toward the back exit. "Class is canceled today, Lily. Tell the others."

As the teacher disappeared around the corner, Emma fluttered off Lily's shoulder. "Did you see what was in that box?"

Lily nodded, her violet eyes wide with concern. "She looked scared."
