The Quiet Beginning

Rafi stared at the small apartment that would now be his home. The morning light filtered through unfamiliar windows, casting shadows across rooms he didn't recognize. His new wife, Rina, moved quietly through the kitchen, her footsteps soft against the tile floor.

He had met her only twice before their wedding ceremony three days ago. Their families had arranged everything while they stood politely on the sidelines, nodding when expected.

"Would you like tea?" Rina's voice was barely above a whisper.

Rafi nodded, settling into a chair at the small dining table. He watched as she filled the kettle, her movements careful and precise. When she hummed softly under her breath—a melody he didn't know—something in his chest loosened slightly.

The silence between them wasn't angry or cold. It was simply... there. Like a bridge waiting to be crossed, if either of them could find the courage to take the first step.

The Herb Garden Secret

Rafi sipped his tea slowly, watching Rina arrange dried herbs on the windowsill. Each tiny bottle had a handwritten label in careful script.

"My grandmother taught me," Rina said softly, noticing his curious gaze. "She said herbs remember songs."

Before Rafi could ask what that meant, a sparrow landed on the windowsill outside, chirping urgently. Its wing hung at an odd angle.

"Oh no," Rina whispered, rushing to open the window. The sparrow hopped inside without fear, settling near her herb collection.

Rafi watched in amazement as Rina hummed that same melody from earlier while mixing something in a small bowl. The sparrow seemed to calm at her voice.

"I've never told anyone about this," Rina admitted, her cheeks flushed pink. "People think it's silly."

Rafi leaned closer. "What are you doing exactly?"

"Helping," she said simply, gently touching the sparrow's injured wing as she hummed. "My grandmother said caring hands and the right song can mend small hurts."

The sparrow's wing straightened slightly. Rafi blinked hard, unsure if he'd really seen it happen.
