Morning Calls

Crayon Paintbrush Doe adjusted her black mask as she stood on the observation deck of the tallest paintbrush tower. The morning sun cast rainbow reflections across Canvas Cervine City's art-covered buildings below. Her giant magic paintbrush hummed softly at her side, its bristles shimmering with faint blue light.

"Another perfect day to help the citizens," she said, breathing in the crisp air.

A sharp knock echoed from the tower's main door. Doe bounded down the spiral staircase, her hooves clicking against the crayon-textured steps. She opened the door to find Officer Buck, a tall deer with dark antlers and a pressed police uniform.

"We have a problem," Buck said, his brown eyes serious. "Three giant paintbrushes vanished overnight from the Arts District. No signs of forced entry, no witnesses."

Doe's ears perked forward. "Which shops?"

"The Canvas Corner, Bristle & Beyond, and Master Stroke Studios." Buck pulled out a small notepad. "All the owners are baffled. These weren't ordinary brushes—each one was nearly six feet tall."

Doe grabbed her magic crayon. "Let's investigate."

The Warning on the Corner

Doe and Officer Buck hurried through the winding cobblestone streets toward the Arts District. Colorful murals covered every building wall, and sculptures of dancing paintbrushes lined the sidewalks.

"Look at that," Buck said, pointing his hoof at a small crowd gathered around a street corner.

A woman with short black hair stood on an upturned wooden crate, speaking to a group of deer and humans. Her voice carried across the square as she gestured wildly with her hands.

"Citizens of Canvas Cervine City," the woman called out, "I am Luna Shoewright, and I'm here to warn you about the paintbrush plague!"

Doe stepped closer, her ears twitching forward. "Plague?"

"These disappearances aren't random," Luna continued. "Giant paintbrushes are vanishing because someone wants to steal our city's creativity! Without them, our art will fade to nothing!"

A small sparrow perched on Luna's shoulder chirped loudly. The crowd murmured nervously.

Buck whispered to Doe, "She's making people panic."

"But what if she knows something we don't?" Doe replied, studying the passionate woman. "We should talk to her."

Before Buck could respond, Luna pointed directly at them. "Even our heroes don't understand the danger we're facing!"
