The Unexpected Announcement

Nova knelt in the courtyard garden, carefully tending to the small chrysanthemums her mother had planted. The morning sun filtered through the silk banners hanging from the wooden pavilion, casting gentle shadows across the stone pathway.

"Nova!" Her sister Mei rushed toward her, silk robes rustling. "Father wants to see you immediately. There are important visitors in the main hall."

Nova's hands trembled as she set down her gardening tools. Important visitors never came for her. She was the quiet daughter, the one who preferred books to parties and flowers to fancy clothes.

Inside the grand hall, her father stood beside a tall man wearing elaborate golden robes. The stranger's dark eyes studied her with surprising gentleness.

"Nova," her father's voice was unusually formal, "this is Crown Prince Chang. You are to be married within the month."

The prince stepped forward and bowed respectfully. "I look forward to knowing you better, Nova."

Her world shifted completely in that single moment.

The Sparrow's Message

Nova sat alone in her family's private garden, trying to understand what had just happened. Marriage to the Crown Prince? Her hands still shook from the announcement.

A small sparrow landed on the stone bench beside her, chirping softly. It carried a tiny silk ribbon in its beak.

"What do you have there, little one?" Nova whispered, gently taking the ribbon. Delicate characters were written on it in elegant brushstrokes.

Her sister Mei appeared around the corner, walking with a smart woman Nova had never seen before. The woman had short black hair and wore practical robes instead of fancy silk.

"This is Lady Chen," Mei said quietly. "She's here to prepare you for palace life."

Lady Chen studied Nova with sharp eyes. "Crown Prince Chang specifically requested that your training begin immediately. He wants you to feel confident when you arrive at the palace."

Nova looked down at the sparrow's ribbon again. The message read: "Strength comes in quiet moments."

"Who sent this?" Nova asked.

Lady Chen smiled mysteriously. "Perhaps someone who understands that the smallest voices sometimes carry the most important messages."

The sparrow chirped once more before flying toward the palace walls in the distance.
