The Ancient Guardian

Fern stood at the edge of Echo Falls, watching water cascade down smooth rocks into a crystal-clear pool below. The sound echoed through the forest like nature's own music. Her green dress fluttered in the mist as she stepped closer to examine the towering trees surrounding the waterfall.

In the center of everything grew the most magnificent tree she had ever seen. Its trunk twisted upward like a spiral staircase, with silver bark that seemed to shimmer in the dappled sunlight. Ancient roots spread wide across the ground, creating natural stepping stones toward the water.

"There's something different about this place," Fern whispered to herself, running her fingers along one of the massive roots. The tree felt warm beneath her touch, almost alive in a way that made her heart skip.

The Voice in the Silver Bark

A soft voice drifted from the guardian tree's silver bark. "Welcome, young seeker. I am Echo, spirit of these falls."

Fern stepped back, eyes wide. The tree's trunk began to glow with gentle light. "Three challenges await you before the hidden paradise opens. Each will test what matters most."

"What kind of challenges?" Fern asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

"First, you must answer the riddle of the heart. Second, solve the puzzle of the mind. Third, pass the trial of courage." Echo's voice grew softer. "Many have tried. Few have succeeded."

Suddenly, a small parrot with bright blue and green feathers landed on a nearby branch. "Don't listen to old Echo!" the parrot squawked. "The challenges are impossible! Turn back now!"

Fern looked between the glowing tree and the chattering bird. Her heart pounded with excitement and fear.
