Morning Rituals

Caribou Red Riding Hood stretched her antlers as sunlight streamed through the tall windows of Caribou Lodge. The four statue towers cast long shadows across the polished floors.

"Good morning, Fairy Tale Metropolis," she whispered, watching the bustling city below. Humans hurried to work while fairy tale characters opened their shops. A giant walked past carrying coffee cups the size of buckets.

Red touched her blue mask and adjusted her flowing cape. Today felt different somehow. The air seemed restless, like it couldn't decide what weather it wanted to be.

Her phone buzzed with morning news alerts. She scrolled past celebrity gossip and traffic reports until one headline made her pause: "Weather Acting Strange Across City - Experts Baffled."

Red stepped onto her private balcony. The wind swirled in three different directions at once. Clouds gathered and scattered without pattern. Even her weather-sensing abilities felt confused by the chaotic atmosphere.

The Square's Secret

Red decided to investigate the strange weather herself. She leaped from her balcony, her cape billowing as she soared over the city streets.

Below, she spotted something unusual in Harmony Square. A small woman with choppy black hair knelt beside a massive puddle that stretched across the entire plaza. The woman wore paint-splattered overalls and thick glasses that kept sliding down her nose.

"Excuse me," Red called as she landed. "I'm Red Riding Hood. What's happening here?"

The woman looked up, startled. "Oh! I'm Maya Chen, the city's weather engineer. This puddle appeared overnight, but it's not from rain. The water keeps swirling in perfect circles."

Red knelt beside the puddle. Her antlers tingled as she sensed something mechanical beneath the surface. Through her x-ray vision, she glimpsed gears and pipes deep underground.

"There's equipment down there," Red said. "What kind of weather system runs under the city?"

Maya's face went pale. "The Central Weather Control Station. If it's flooding, that explains everything. The annual Fairy Tale Festival starts in three days. Without proper weather control, storms could destroy the entire celebration."

Thunder rumbled overhead, though no clouds were visible.
