When Crayons Come Alive
Listen to audiobook
Morning Mayhem
Crayon Jack stretched his arms and yawned as morning sunlight streamed through the tall windows of Crayon Fortress. His blue and black supersuit wrinkled from sleep, he shuffled toward the kitchen in his light blue boots.
"Good morning, ladies!" he called out cheerfully.
Darlene Deer looked up from her coffee, her brown fur gleaming in the morning light. She wore a cozy pink house coat that matched her gentle smile. "Morning, Jack! Sleep well?"
Grace Goat bleated softly from the corner, wrapped in a fluffy white towel after her shower. Her curved horns caught the light as she nodded toward him.
Stella Sheep bounced over wearing a purple house coat, her woolly white curls bouncing with each step. "Jack, something weird happened last night. I heard voices coming from your art studio."
"Voices?" Jack raised an eyebrow, his bright blue eyes curious.
"Like... talking. But you were asleep," Stella continued, looking puzzled.
Jack shrugged and reached for his giant glowing blue crayon from the counter. "Probably just the wind."
The Sparrow's Alarm
Jack walked toward his art studio, his light blue boots clicking on the marble floor. Before he could reach the door, a small brown sparrow burst through the open window, chirping frantically.
"Help! Help!" the sparrow squeaked, landing on Jack's shoulder. "Your drawings are alive and they're very angry!"
Jack's blue eyes widened. "Did that bird just talk?"
The sparrow nodded rapidly. "All your art supplies are complaining! The paintbrushes say you never clean them properly, the erasers claim you work them too hard, and the colored pencils are furious about being left with their caps off!"
Darlene Deer, Grace Goat, and Stella Sheep rushed over, having heard the commotion. Grace bleated in surprise while Stella's woolly curls bounced as she shook her head in disbelief.
"This is impossible," Jack muttered, but then angry shouting erupted from his studio.
"WE'VE HAD ENOUGH!" came muffled voices from behind the studio door.
The sparrow fluttered nervously. "They're planning to leave the fortress forever unless you listen to their complaints. Every single one of them!"
Jack gripped his glowing blue crayon tighter. His art supplies were revolting, and somehow they'd gained voices to express their frustrations.
