The Wrong Turn
The final bell chimed at Magic Dragon School. Zephyr stretched his sky blue wings while Ember's red tail flickered with excitement.
"Time to go home!" Ivy announced, her green leaf-patterned wings shimmering.
Nimbus, silver and moonlit, pointed to the swirling portal at the school's entrance. "Last one through has to carry tomorrow's spell books!"
The four friends raced toward the magical doorway. But as they dove through together, something felt different. Instead of the familiar warmth of their village, cold air hit their scales. Strange smells filled their nostrils.
They tumbled onto a hard floor covered in white squares. Tall tables surrounded them, covered with glass containers and mysterious bubbling liquids. Bright lights hummed overhead.
The Bubbling Surprise
"Where are we?" Ember asked, her red tail dimming as she looked around nervously.
A woman with short gray hair and safety glasses peered over a tall table. "Four little dragons? In my chemistry lab?" She set down a glass beaker filled with clear liquid. "I'm Dr. Chen. You must have come through the wrong portal."
Ivy's green wings fluttered. "What's that bubbly stuff?"
"Water mixed with baking soda," Dr. Chen explained. "Chemistry is about mixing different substances to see what happens."
Nimbus, his silver scales shimmering, accidentally knocked over a small bottle. White powder spilled across the table.
"Oh no!" Dr. Chen rushed forward. "That's a strong acid powder. It can burn your scales if you touch it. In chemistry, some mixtures can be very dangerous."
Zephyr backed away from the spill. "We need to be more careful."
Dr. Chen smiled. "Exactly. Chemistry can create amazing things, but we must always learn the safe way first."
What we learned: Chemistry is the study of mixing different substances to see what happens. Some chemicals can be dangerous and harmful if not handled properly.
